Every Vision Jet includes a premier pilot training experience at our Vision Center Campus, including training in our full-motion Level D Vision Jet flight simulator. With plans to increase production and to develop a new aircraft model, Cirrus expanded into a 111,000 square foot manufacturing facility adjacent to its R&D headquarters in Duluth. Not long after, a complete glass cockpit was also added to the SR Series – it was the first primary flight display incorporated in to a small certified aircraft and became an industry standard with other manufacturers following Cirrus’ lead. Cirrus Design's team will record every dimension of a hydro plant – to exacting measurements within 1/8th of an inch – and generate a truly accurate representation of what exists at the plant. We help ensure compliance and safety standards for a wide range of industries, such as construction, agriculture, energy and more.

The Private Pilot Program
For example, you could be monitoring ATIS on one frequency and listening to Approach on another. One channel goes to each ear, and the unit processes the signal, so the effect is unlike anything you’ve experienced before. The resulting communication is unexpectedly distinct and easy to understand, even with both sides transmitting at the same time.
Cirrus Aircraft history
The Cirrus seduced me over the course of a San Francisco adventure, slowly transforming each of my objections into a chin-rubbing understanding of why this airplane deserves a place right next to that venerable Cub. Get the added assurance of predictability and value through our comprehensive Vision Jet ownership program. Safe Return emergency autoland provides a new way to protect your passengers - giving them the ability to land the Vision Jet in an emergency situation with the simple touch of a button.
PERFORMANCE SEATS
Mike graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering from Purdue University. He worked in residential construction in various positions, starting with over five years of field work. We believe the greatest quality build is a culmination of many correct details. We scrutinize every aspect of construction including material selection, assembly methods, and the sequence of construction activities.
Configure Your Cirrus Aircraft

When Cirrus conceived the airplane, they started with a sphere instead of a rectangle, so the interior vibe is completely different from, say, a Mooney, where the rear cabin can be claustrophobic. I’m not a big guy, of course, but the rear space is positively cavernous. One major enhancement to the 2012 SR22T is the three-seat rear space, allowing three people in back and two up front. In truth, three full-size adults would find it overly cozy, but a couple with a child or three average teenagers would be comfortable. Standing firmly in the stick-and-rudder-and-tailwheel camp, my instincts told me the Cirrus couldn’t be a “real” airplane.
The Cirrus Aircraft Difference
In the mid-1990’s, Cirrus discontinued production of the VK-30 and launched the SR20 – a single-piston composite airplane that changed the world of general aviation. The SR20 featured a 10-inch multi-function display and side-yoke flight controllers. Whether you’re new to flying or a seasoned pilot, our team can help you begin your journey. Auto Radar powered by Garmin® and Cirrus IQ™ connectivity have been added as new advanced features on the world’s best-selling personal jet, the Vision Jet. These upgrades now provide pilots with increased situational awareness and connectivity during all stages of pre-flight and inflight activities.
I also noticed how a large part of the mission of the SR22 is to make the job of piloting easier. For example, our takeoff flap setting was “50%,” the first detent on the simple switch. How many degrees 50% translates to isn’t apparent, and it’s these kinds of contradictions that have some old-timers saying the airplane oversimplifies flying. But understanding the logic of the non-complicated system deflates such arguments. The settings could be in Russian, and all that counts is the proper procedure for this airplane. Sometimes, I think many of us are enamored with flying’s complexity; it’s a sort of a mysterious veil to outsiders.
The Vision Jet became the first jet aircraft to be FAA certified with Garmin-powered Safe Return™, allowing passengers to land the jet with just the touch of a button in case of an emergency. The Safe Return autoland system was awarded the 2020 Robert J. Collier Trophy. Awarded in 2018, the Vision Jet won the 2017 Robert J. Collier Trophy – the world’s most prestigious aviation award – for developing the world’s first single-engine Personal Jet and implementing CAPS on the Vision Jet. Dale Klapmeier, Cirrus Aircraft Co-founder and Senior Advisor, accepted the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
And we continue to redefine safety through our unique flight training program, Cirrus Approach, along with a host of tools and services to help us deliver a world-class experience to our customers across the globe. Unlike fighter jets, which eject the pilot from the aircraft, CAPS uses a parachute to bring the entire airplane to the ground safely. Pilots can expect a descent of roughly 22 feet per second with the parachute deployed. This technology was developed by Boris Popov and his company, Ballistic Recovery Systems (BRS). Cirrus partnered with BRS in 1998 to create CAPS to save lives in emergency situations by lowering the aircraft to the ground. Cirrus is the first and only aircraft manufacturer to receive certification from the Federal Aviation Administration to use this technology as standard equipment on their SR-series aircraft and Vision Jet.
By the end of 2019, Cirrus employed 1,600 people and produced 81 Vision Jets and 384 SR-series aircraft that year, resulting in the company's fifth year of growth and its best year in sales. In March 2013, the company was granted a loan for US$950,000 from the City of Grand Forks, North Dakota to purchase an autoclave for composite production at the company's Grand Forks facility. Cirrus eliminated 208 employee positions in the fall of 2008 and cut aircraft production from 14 to 12 aircraft per week in response to the economic situation. In November 2008, the company announced that it would lay-off about 500 production employees for one month to allow for reductions in excess stock of aircraft produced. In September 2008, the global sale slump in piston-engined aircraft impacted the company and it laid off 100 workers, or 8% of its workforce. In 1994, Cirrus moved headquarters to larger facilities in Duluth, Minnesota and began research and development of the SR20, a four-passenger, single-engine composite aircraft.
Cirrus is trying to invite outsiders into aviation by removing that veil, and then everybody wins. Any fair review of an aircraft like the newest SR22T has to include both sides of the like/dislike argument. What’s interesting is that this Cirrus has sparked so passionate a reaction.
Cirrus Aircraft also partnered with Garmin® to launch progressive avionics improvements exclusive to Cirrus aircraft – a collaboration that continues to develop sophisticated flight decks tailored for Cirrus aircraft each year. Our global network of Factory Direct and Authorized Service Centers feature trained technicians with access to genuine parts and the latest procedures to maintain your aircraft to the highest standards for the many years of flying adventures ahead. Cirrus passed Textron Aviation as the largest producer of piston aircraft by unit-volume in 2013, and has remained the largest ever since. In July 2013, Cirrus president and COO Pat Waddick indicated that the ongoing Chinese government investment would allow it to continue to develop new models of aircraft with innovative powerplants.

The company’s dogged pursuit of innovation in safety is equal only to its revolutionary advances in design, construction and performance, and it’s these advances that have fueled the passionate arguments. Looking back, designs like the Cessna 172, the Beechcraft Bonanza, Piper Cub, Mooney M20 and a handful of others have changed the way aviators—and outsiders—perceive general aviation. These aircraft led GA in a new direction the minute they were introduced. Since 1994, when a nascent company named “Cirrus Design” unveiled a revolutionary airplane called the SR20, that list has grown to include the SR22 and SR22T.
They divide the expenses over 120 months and view the $ monthly cost as an insurance expense for being equipped with the added safety measure of CAPS. ASSEMBLY is thrilled to return to the Music City Center in Nashville, TN for The ASSEMBLY Show SOUTH on May 1-2, 2024. The descent and landing into San Carlos were easy events, with the SR22 trucking down final in a flat approach and flare. A good dose of practice would get me comfortable, though the side stick still felt a bit alien.
A desire to redefine safety in aviation inspired the company to include a revolutionary whole-plane parachute system as standard equipment on all Cirrus aircraft – the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®). It was the industry’s first general aviation parachute system produced in an FAA certified aircraft. And to date, Cirrus continues to be the only company to include a whole airframe parachute as standard equipment on all certified aircraft models.
The pilot of the SR-22 activated CAPS which lowered the aircraft down in Cherry Creek State Park. In this session, manufacturers will learn how Quality function deployment (QFD) can transform consumers’ qualitative demands into quantitative parameters that will shape the design of their product and, ultimately, their manufacturing process. Our Vision Center Campus offers the world’s premier pilot training experience for both the SR Series and the Vision Jet. By now everyone has seen a Cirrus, and the company recently celebrated their 5,000th airplane.
